Sunday Assembly is a global non-religious movement for wonder and good, founded in London in 2013 with a simple mantra: live better, help often, wonder more. In North East Lincolnshire, the Assembly is guided by Dr Eve Darwood and Pete Cullum — a Humanist Chaplain and local business owner whose shared belief that “we have more in common than that which divides us” shapes everything they do.

What happens at Sunday Assembly?

Drawing 30–50 attendees each month, Sunday Assembly NE Lincs is designed to uplift and connect. Expect uplifting sing-along music, inspiring talks from community champions, and positive community highlights shining a spotlight on everyday people doing extraordinary good in our area. Attendees span generations, and while many are mid-50s and above, young families and couples are actively welcomed.

The gathering is described simply as: “A non-religious get-together: music, talk and community… an event to celebrate life and connect to others.”

Why it matters

Sunday Assembly creates a sanctuary based on shared values — connection, wonder, kindness — without invoking faith or doctrine. It finds inspiration in ordinary lives, strengthens intergenerational bonds, and is free, unbooked, and open to all. Eve and Pete have shown that building belonging doesn’t require a belief system — just heart, intention, and willingness to gather.
