For many people, safety is a hope. For Shannon Donnelly, it’s a mission. As the founder of Get Personal, Shannon combines her lived experience as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse with her entrepreneurial spirit to create a business that’s not just about products — it’s about protection, empowerment, and support for others who feel vulnerable.
A personal journey of survival and strength
Shannon bravely shared how she endured sexual abuse from her stepfather between the ages of 6 and 16, a trauma that eventually led to his imprisonment. Even after his early release, Shannon was left with fear — and little formal support. “All the police could offer was a panic alarm and advice to avoid going out after dark.” Rather than stay silent, Shannon channelled her experience into a purpose-driven business. During the pandemic, she launched Get Personal — a UK-wide safety brand providing affordable, legal safety products.
About Get Personal
Operating through www.get-personal.co.uk, Shannon offers UK-legal personal safety tools including panic alarms, legal spray alternatives, mobile phone security tools, and discreet safety scrunchies. Her mission: make personal safety accessible, especially for women, young people, and vulnerable individuals.
Shannon makes monthly donations of safety products to charities, donates mobile phones to domestic violence charities, and participates in local community events. “I know what it’s like to feel unsafe and unseen. If I can help even one person feel more secure, it’s worth it.”
